Microsoft firmó un convenio con la red social Facebook para incluir un modulo de búsqueda Live Search en la página de la red, así que enlaces patrocinados del AdCenter de Microsoft.

Satya Nadella anunció que este convenio sólo está para el sitio de Estados Unidos.

Hay que recordar que Microsoft pagó 240 millones de dólares en 2007 para adquirir 1.6% de las acciones de Facebook .

CUIL (se pronuncia “cool”) es el nombre del nuevo buscador que nació el lunes y creado por tres ex empleados de Google. Desde el principio, el novato cuenta con un índice de 121 millones de páginas Web, un buen comienzo cuando sabemos que el número total de direcciones URL que figuran actualmente (pero no necesariamente indexados) por Google en el mundo sería 1 000 millones.

Según los fundadores de CUIL, el índice de los motores sería tres veces más grande que Google. Pero como este último no ha comunicado en el tamaño de su índice durante un tiempo prolongado, difícil tener una idea clara. Sin embargo, la barra se encuentra lo suficientemente alto, sin duda.

Su algoritmo, aunque tenemos poca información, analiza el contenido de las páginas web y su contexto, que difiere significativamente de los análisis de los vínculos que se da cuenta de Google.

El motor analiza el “concepto” de cada búsqueda y combina los resultados con categorías similares. Las “sidebars” ofrecen también profundizar una categoría de resultados relacionados con la investigación inicial.

Los resultados de la búsqueda se presentan con un formato tipo “revista” con dos o tres columnas, con fotografías ilustrativas cuando es posible, lo que difiere de la habitual presentación de los principales motores de hoy.

Los primeros resultados no son muy pertinentes, a lo menos mucho menos que Google. También, el nuevo formato de los resultados es un poco confuso por unos usuarios acostumbrados a los de los buscadores actuales. Además, hay que destacar que solo 10 resultados están en cada página. Lo que es muy poco; pero los sitios que están, tienen la oportunidad de tener la mejor vista posible.

Cuil no es el primer buscador que anuncia querer vencer a Google, y no será el último. Seguiremos este nuevo desafio.
